There are some exciting things in the works for 2017!
This summer we will be celebrating the 10 year anniversary of Jamland, and plans are well underway to make it the "best Jamland ever." Ricky, Dave, Chris and I are still playing music together as part of Neu Tones. Out next gig is on Friday March 24 at Bobby O'Brien's in Kitchener. After taking a long break from playing my bass, I've been picking it up fairly often over the past few months. Plans are in the works to put together a set of music with Harvard Mouse ... it's been a while! I'm looking forward to continuing with my musical journey through life. And speaking of a journey, I will be working with a number of other teachers at Forest Heights Collegiate to bring back "Journey" as an arts and culture festival event at the school. That will happen on Wed. April 12. As I look forward, I see lots in the works for 2017! I'm happy to be playing music these days with Ricky Neu (Diesel Dog, Stumbleweed), Chris Mulligan (Slipfish) and Dave Voigt (Ned Wreck, Harvard Mouse) as part of Neu Tones. We are excited to share the stage at Homegrown Hamilton on Sat. Feb. 27, 2016 with Dan Walsh and his JJ Cale tribute band! For more show info: Dan Walsh w/ Neu Tones

Peace, Mark Here is the trailer for the Jamland documentary film! The premiere screening of this film will be happening on Thursday, June 11, 2015 in Waterloo at the Original Princess Cinema. Visit www.jamland.tv for more information. Jamland has been my main creative endeavour and a labour of love over the past number of years. I am really excited about the film and am thrilled with the final product. Until this project, I never envisioned that I would be involved with the production and direction of a documentary film, but I am fortunate to have a teaching colleague who is an excellent visual artist and documentary filmmaker (Robert Waldeck from Drywal Media). When I was first approached by Rob to shoot some footage at Jamland, I said “sure” and didn’t really know what to expect. I don’t think he really did either. But we both agree that it has turned out better than imagined! Thanks again to the the Region of Waterloo ARTS FUND for the generous financial support and to Drywal Media for the fantastic work they have done with this film. And most importantly, thanks to the many friends who have helped with the creation of this film, both directly and indirectly. I very much look forward to the screening of this film in large part because it highlights the contributions and efforts of many talented friends. I'm happy to be a part of a cool show in Kitchener on Saturday, February 28, 2105 - Neu Tone Voigt is on a bill with Dan Walsh & The Passive Resistors and Stephen Lewis. This is going be a funtastic night!
For the past six months, I've been playing acoustic guitar and singing some songs with Ricky Neu (drums), and Dave Voigt (bass, vocals). We are calling ourselves Neu Tone Voigt ... at least for now! We've worked up a good set of songs made up of oirginals and covers, and at each of our gigs to date we have had at least one guest guitarist join us. Our next show is on Saturday August 30 at the Come Together Music Festival. I am excited to announce that I've received generous financial support from the the Region of Waterloo ARTS FUND to help with the remaining filming and editing of the Jamland documentary film! I will be working with Drywal Media on this project and the film will be completed by the end of the year. Performance-wise, things have been relatively low-key this year. I've enjoyed the break from playing bass with a band; it has given me a chance to spend some time strumming chords on an acoustic guitar and singing songs. Musically, the plan for the remainder of this year is to continue to strum chords, learn some more cover songs, and complete at least a few of the original songs that I've started writing over the past year.
My biggest artistic project for the remainder of this year and for 2014 will be directing the completion of a documentary film about Jamland. I've now started to sift through the mountains of film footage that has accumulated for this project, with the intention of working with Drywal Media to complete the film in 2014. |
