We packed up the van and headed for the show
Got there early but the parking lot was pretty full
Drove around and around until we found an empty space
Groovy people were wandering all over the place
Walked around for hours checking out the vendors wares
Painters, poets and musicians were everywhere
Ate some tasty food from a freaky fella dressed in tie dye
Bought some stickers from a hippie looking for her next ride
As the show time grew closer people’s stereos shut down
We slowly made our way into the concert grounds
Then the drummers started playing a simple beat
The crowd clapped along, screamed and stamped their feet
The bass kicked in and started to pound
Keyboards and guitars filled up the sound
Dancers in long skirts twirled ‘round and ‘round
There’s nothing else like it around
Dead sound
Dead sound
It is a Dead show
I’ve been to them before
But I still don’t know
What is in store
The band was rockin’, played some country and some blues
Really started cookin’, then got mellow for a couple of tunes
Took old songs to new limits with incredible zeal
At the end of set one I had an upbeat groovy feel
During the break I talked with heads from many states
Some had been to shows back in 1968
As the second set started birds and planes flew by
Pulsating patterns of the stage lights matched the twinkle of the stars in the sky
After a lengthy jam the video show began
The crowd sat to watch as images split again and again
Then the drummers started playing all over the place
The band came back on to the stage and took us into space
The bass kicked in and started to pound
Keyboards and guitars filled up the sound
Dancers in long skirts twirled ‘round and ‘round
There’s nothing else like it around
